Room to Read - world change starts with educated children :)

On the 7th March International Women Day Event took place. It is a yearly event organised by OWIT Lake Geneva and ITC (International Trade Center).
This year we talked about "Empowerment through entrepreneurship: from principles to practice".  More than 100 women and men came to listen to the speakers, share their experience and network.

At this occasion the participants could make a personal donation to Room to Read (OWIT's preferred charity) which will open the doors of opportunity to 5 more girls by financing their 10-years school education.

    We collected 531 CHF :)
We would like to thank every giver for their generosity
(especially the woman who came to me after the official part and donated 50 CHF more saying that OWIT President's explanation about this good cause inspired her to do so :))

You can still make a personal donation today on OWIT Lake Geneva’s Room to Read donation page.
Your support will make a difference!

Bring your ideas to our World Café

We call on all members, supporters and followers to bring their enthusiasm and ideas to our World Café networking meeting on March 21.

The aim of our professional volunteer association is to foster the advancement of women in international business, trade and development, inspire the local community by promoting women’s leadership and the gender diversity business case and connecting the Lake Geneva community with inspiring leaders and exceptional women.

The more you give the more you get!

In life, you will have experienced situations in which the more effort you have made, the more has come back to you.
Your participation is very important and your ideas count! We would like to hear what you think about the association and how we can reach our goals and beyond.

Ask yourself: when did I last attend a meeting? Why did I join this group? Do I get what I expect out of the events I attend? If you have been a member for a while tell us what has worked in the past, and make suggestions as to how we could do differently and revitalise our meetings, events and attract more active and passionate members.

    World Café style set-up:
Our informal café style set-up will allow you to move around different tables and share your ideas with small groups of participants and get to know more people.

We hope you will be daring, completely creative and think out of the box to help us plan the future of our association, events, meetings or anything else you wish to raise.

Remember, the more you share with us, the more we can give you back!

If you share a common interest in promoting science, maths and technology in schools for young girls, there is an opportunity to be part of a dedicated team in the Geneva community who held a successful conference for girls aged 11-14 in Nov 2011 and are now preparing for the next conference planned for Nov 2013. The EYH committee is looking for volunteers to promote, plan and support the event in any way you can.

The concept of the programme is taken from a California organisation called Expanding Your Horizons whose brainchild it was to use women scientists in the community as role models to encourage girls to take up these valuable subjects at schools. EYH Switzerland works closely with local organisations such as CERN, the Botanical Gardens and industries such as engineering and pharmaceuticals, all supported by the local education authorities and hosted at the University of Geneva.

If you would like to learn more and meet the committee members, join the information session on 17 March 2013 from 3-5pm in Founex.

To register please contact: Lorraine Mcdowell, +41794569910, email: Lorraine.Mcdowell@merckgroup.com.

If you would like to involve your organisation by running a workshop or holding a booth at the careers fair please contact Andrea Delannoy +41786010342 / email: andrea.delannoy@bluewin.ch for more details.
